Leonard Jones, age 72, passed quietly into eternal rest on November 8, 2024, at Northern Cardinal Rehab in Suffolk, VA. Leonard was born on July 18, 1952, to the late Eddie Lee Jones and Maggie Clemons Jones. Leonard is also preceded in death by his sister Vera Jones Gibson.

Leonard was educated in Portsmouth City Public Schools and graduated from Churchland High School. Leonard also went to Jenkins Barber College and worked as a skilled and licensed barber. He also worked several other jobs but, ultimately, was employed at Newport News Shipyard in the paint department. Leonard was a punctual and dedicated, skilled worker. He acquired several security clearances and inspected jobs for job clearance. Leonard retired from his job in October of 2018 after 42 years of service.

Leonard joined St. Joseph AME Zion Church, where he worshipped with his wife, Linda, after marriage. Leonard served on the Usher Board and worked wherever help was needed. He helped serve with the kitchen staff when they had special services. He was always willing to help.

Leonard leaves behind to cherish, his loving wife Linda Griffin Jones; his beloved daughter Chanell Taylor (Stephon); two granddaughters Nyla Taylor and Ayanna Taylor; one uncle Filmore Clemons; one aunt Magalene Clemons; five siblings Eddie Senior McLauchlin, Madeline Banks, Dannie Jones, Fred Jones and Jerry Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at St. Joseph AME Zion Church, 1540 Atlantic Ave, Chesapeake, VA. The viewing will be Friday, November 22, 2024, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
