Chesapeake - On Tuesday morning February 27, 2008, Leonidas Vernon Eley of the 2000 block of Eagle Drive slipped away into eternal rest. Born in Portsmouth, Virginia on December 17, 1925, he was the son of late Leon and Ethel Eley. He was a life long resident of the Berkley community of Norfolk. He served his country as a member of the United States Navy and retired as a welder from the Naval Air Station.
Leonidas was preceded in death by his brother Bernard Eley. He leaves to cherish his memories; his wife of 58 years Wilma Claggion Eley, his daughter Wilmajean Eley of Washington DC, his son Dwight L. Eley, Sr. (Fabra) Chesapeake VA, his, three grandsons Dwight L Eley, Jr. and Dominic J. Eley of Chesapeake, VA., Reid M. Eley of Washington, DC., a sister Ethel Porter of Portsmouth, VA, two brothers William Eley and Joseph Eley (Shirley) of Washington, DC and a host of relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 4, 2007 at the Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milner's Road, Suffolk. Viewing will be held 2pm - 7 pm Monday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
