Obituary

Lisa Renée Jones was born on July 3, 1961 in Portsmouth, VA to Hugh L. Jones and the late Callie E. Jones (née Clark). As a child, Lisa attended William E. Waters Elementary School, Lakewood Middle School, and started Manor/Wilson High School in Portsmouth, VA. She later attended Booker T. Washington High School, in Norfolk, VA, where she received her High school diploma. Lisa went on to further her education by attending Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Information Systems.

Following her school years, Lisa continued using her business and administrative skills by working for the Martin Advertising Agency and the Virginia Tax Department in Richmond, Virginia. She later began to serve the Lord as a member and an employee of ReJOYce IN JESUS Ministries, Inc (RJM) – Pastored by Dr. Chester C. Pipkin, Jr. For over 30 years, Lisa tirelessly and faithfully served first as office secretary in Richmond, then later moved to the church headquarters in Los Angeles, California where she served in the main office doing administrative work, and accounting; as secretary on the Ministry Board of Directors; and as a personal business assistant to the Assistant Pastor and First Lady of RJM, Dr. Vondalier A. Pipkin.

Lisa battled breast cancer for almost 20 years. Despite her health challenges Lisa was a beautiful light that changed the atmosphere. She was always a social butterfly. Her childhood friends, Carol Pugh Jones (Chesapeake, VA) and Barbara Wiggins (Virginia Beach, VA) remained best friends and made lasting memories. She also met and befriended Linda Manns West and Tracy Scott Byrant (known as the dynamic trio) while attending VCU and upon joining RJM. While living in Richmond, VA, Lisa and Mable Early became and remained close friends until her passing. She also had a host of ministry friends that she cherished and loved as extended brothers and sisters in the Lord for over 40 years. She always made an effort to spend time with close friends when she was visiting her hometown and while on the East Coast.

Lisa valued and loved her family dearly. She always managed to expand her busy schedule to include spending time with them via Zoom chats in order to narrow the distance between them, with her family being on the East Coast while she was in California. Despite her heath challenges, Lisa also flew across the country to see

her family during the holidays, for birthdays, and special family occasions when she was able just to spend quality time with the people she loved and cherished.

Lisa was a servant who put others first. She was loving, kind, loyal, spoke the truth in love, funny, trustworthy, a true friend and confidant. Many will remember her for her sweet and gentle spirit. Lisa always had a smile and made friends wherever she went. She always gave out to many, had a heart for others with a patient listening ear, and was very steadfast in her ministering. She preferred walking in excellence and enjoyed having a classy appearance.

Lisa loved spending time by the water (James River in Richmond, VA, beach fronts in Los Angeles, CA) to spend time with the Lord and with her friends. She always enjoyed watching action movies and reading Christian novels with suspense. She also loved eating out by the water and sitting at the airport to watch airplanes at In & Out burger in Los Angeles, CA. She enjoyed eating Mexican foods, Cheesecake Factory meals, veggie bowls from Chipotle, quiches, peach cobbler, and cake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. She loved to drink ice cold Pepsi's and very hot chai tea with coconut milk.

She is survived by her father Hugh L. Jones, Sr. - Norfolk, VA; brother Hugh L. Jones, Jr. (Ida) - Baltimore, MD; sister Waunda Jones - Norfolk, VA; nieces Shannon Atkins (DeShawne) - Spring, TX and Tomeika Jones - Milwaukee, WI; nephews Shaun Bailey - Baltimore, MD, Shamar Stevenson - Spring, TX, and Ja'Shaun Shields - Spring, TX; and a host of relatives and friends.

Lisa was an honorable spirit, dependable, and we will continue to greatly miss her.
