Chesapeake – Lucille Butler Edmonds, 82, of the 600 block of Tuskegee Avenue went to be with her husband of 59 years, Moses N. Edmonds and to be with the Lord on February 18, 2011.Born in Utah, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Butler. She was formerly employed with the Chesapeake School System, Food Service Department, and was known in the neighborhood for making her sweet potato and apple jacks. She was the jack lady.
Miss Edmonds is survived by two daughters, Wanda E. Skinner of Chesapeake and Yolanda Edmonds of Virginia Beach; two sons, Moses Edmonds III of Chesapeake and Nathaniel Edmonds; eight sisters, Etta Mae Cook, Calonia White, Ruth Ophelia Smith, Bessie Bailey, Josephine Cheatham and Gennie V. Carroll all of Detroit, Michigan, Ruth Ann Holmes and Olapearl Hobson of Southfield, Michigan; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by one son, Duval Edmonds and one daughter, Patricia Edmonds; two sisters, Carrie Nash and Helen Nash; two brothers, Evans Butler and Charles Butler.
A funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m., Friday at Cathedral of Faith COGIC. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held Thursday from 3pm – 7pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. You may offer condolences to the family at www.pretlowandsons .
