Maaquela Lottie Holmes was born November 6, 2004, to Scharah and Jarmaar Holmes of Chesapeake, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her grandfather Herbert Brown Sr.

Maaquela was educated at Maury High School. She had a passion for doing hair with aspirations of becoming a licensed beautician. She recently turned 21 and was working towards several goals.

Maaquela was born with sickle cell anemia type ss. She spent most of her life fighting to stay alive. Her presence lit up every room she walked into. Everyone who met her fell in love with her infectious laugh and smile.

Maaquela was a loving granddaughter, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She enjoyed reading, playing games, listening to music, and dancing with family and friends. Maaquela made the best kool aid in the family. Her brothers would beg her to make it.

Although Maaquela's days inside of CHKD outweighed her days outside of CHKD; she always found time to be a fun-loving aunt. Maaquela's two nieces and nephew affectionately called her Tee Tee La La.

She leaves behind six brothers Darnell, Donte, Darien, Marquez, Jhaalil, and Jarmaari; two sisters Destiny and Alexsis; grandfather Clarence Freeman; grandmothers Bertha Brown and Teresa Gutierrez; uncles Herbert Brown Jr and Richard Holmes; aunts Trisha and Michele Brown; two nieces Donnasia and Donyea; one nephew Bryson, and dozens of cousins.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty St, Chesapeake, VA 23324.
