IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marvin Linwood
Snead Sr.
October 6, 1949 – February 1, 2025
www.youMarvin L. Snead Sr., of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1st, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on October 6th, 1949, in Chesapeake/Norfolk County, Virginia, he was the beloved son of Wilfred and Gladys Snead.
Marvin began his education at Southeastern Elementary in Chesapeake and later graduated from Crestwood High School, Class of 1968. After graduation, Marvin attended drafting school in Washington, D.C., where he honed his creative and artistic skills. His passion for design and artistry was reflected in the beautiful drawings he created, and this same talent translated into his landscaping business. As a self-employed entrepreneur, Marvin used his creative vision to transform outdoor spaces into works of art, excelling in his craft throughout his career.
Following his time at drafting school, Marvin enlisted in the United States Army, where he served with dedication and pride. His military service played a significant role in shaping his character, and the discipline and values he gained from his time in the Army stayed with him throughout his life.
Marvin was a loving husband to his devoted wife, Marilyn, and a proud father to his son, Marvin L. Snead Jr. (Keesha). He was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred T. Snead and Gladys I. Snead; his brother, Melvin L. Snead Sr.; and his nephew, Tracy L. Snead. Marvin is survived by his brothers, Wilfred "Ali" Snead (Sandra) and Roy L. Snead. He will also be deeply missed by two bonus granddaughters and a host of loving aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews, each of whom will carry his memory with them.
Marvin was an active member of First Baptist Campostella in Norfolk, Virginia, where his love for God continued to grow and flourish. He faithfully served in his own capacity, bringing joy and devotion to his church family and demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his faith.
In addition to his artistic talents, military service, and love for God, Marvin was an avid chess player. He shared a special bond with his close-knit group of chess buddies, and the countless hours spent strategizing and competing with them were some of his most cherished moments. His strategic mind and competitive spirit earned him several victories in local chess tournaments, but more importantly, he fostered friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Marvin's legacy of creativity, love, loyalty, generosity, and faith will live on through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched. Whether through his artwork, landscaping, military service, love of chess, or devotion to God, Marvin made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
May his soul rest in eternal peace, where the Lord's embrace protects him from all harm.
