Mother Mary F. Butler, 92, went home to be with The Lord on Monday, June 24,2013. She was born September 1, 1920 to the late Louis and Mary Anthony in Norfolk County. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church South Hill where she served as a Deaconess, Missionary and one of the Mothers of the church. Mary was also a member of the Chesapeake Silver Strand Senior Citizens and The Eastern Star Elizabeth Fragrant Rose Chapter #34. She was recently honored for 63 years of service and for being a longtime resident of the South Hill Community. Music was her passion. She retired after 36 yrs of service as organist of FBCSH and after 40 yrs. of service as organist of Gilmerton Star A.M.E. Church.

Mother Butler was predeceased by her husband, Willie L. Butler, Sr., her son Frederick W. Butler, granddaughter, Natalie Y. Butler, her parents and all 7
of her siblings.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories son Willie L. Butler, Jr. of Chesapeake, VA, daughter Shelia B. Vines (Albert) of Norfolk, VA, son Powell Eugene Butler (Chardene) of Chesapeake and granddaughter/daughter Joan
M. Lynch (Obie) of Chesapeake; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grands, and 2 great- great grands; God daughters, Wilhelmenia Jones, Deborah Brewer, Joyce Johnson (William) and Linda Loftin (Lucious).

A viewing will be held from 3-7pm on Saturday, June 29th at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street,Chesapeake. A life celebration service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 30th at First Baptist Church South Hill, 3633 Galberry Rd. Chesapeake with Rev. Michael R. Toliver, Senior Pastor-officiating. Interment will be held Monday, July 1st, 9:00 am at Roosevelt Memorial Gardens Chesapeake, VA. Condolences can be offered to the family at www.pretlowandsons.com
