Mary Ella Clemons, 77, was called home to God on December 19, 2021. She was born in Norfolk County on December 4, 1944, to the late Charles and Rellia Brooks Sr. She attended Crestwood High School in Chesapeake. Mary worked as an Assistant Manager of housekeeping for over 20 years at Camelot Nursing Home (known today as Chesapeake Health & Rehabilitation Center). Mary was a member of New Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the usher board.

Mary was a dear and loving mother to not only her children, but as the eldest daughter, Mary was also a mother figure to her siblings. She was known to be giving, sensitive, stern, outspoken, and yet nurturing and protective at heart. Mary loved to laugh and spend time with her family.

She is predeceased by her loving husband of 48 years, Vernell "Meateye" Clemons Sr., and her son Ernest "Redd" Clemons. Mary is survived by her sons Vernell Clemons Jr. (Melvina) of Norfolk, VA, and Dr. Lorenzo Brooks Clemons of Virginia Beach, VA; five brothers, Charles Brooks Jr. (Phyllis), DeRayford Brooks (Sheila), Andrew Brooks (Bonita), Larry Brooks (Meltonie), Marvin Brooks (Darlene); sister, Cynthia Toxey (Ronald); grandchildren; great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

A viewing will be held at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home Wednesday, December 29, 2021, from 5 pm until 7 pm, located at 500 Liberty St, Chesapeake, VA 23324. Mary's Homegoing Service will occur at 11 am on December 30, 2021, at Jesus Church of Deliverance Love Center located at 5246 Jones Lane, Chesapeake, VA with Rev. Anderson Foreman officiating.
