Mary White, 88, was called home to be with the Lord August 4, 2010. Born October 17, 1921, Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She was the wife of the late John Dawson and Robert White. She was the daughter of the late George and Etta Harper and was preceded in death by her sister, Avie Elliott and brother Henry Harper.
She was the mother of the late Avis Dawson, Jeanette Dawson, Shirley Stringfield and John Dawson (Billy). She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Gladys Wright and Barbara Simons both of Chesapeake; one son, Lawrence Dawson (Larry) of St. Petersburg, FL; two sons-in-law, Jetson Wright and Larry Simons; nine grandchildren, Willie Sears Jr., Telly Simons, Christopher Simons, Michael Cooke, Dawn Wright, Rita Saunder, Chantae Matthews, Sheryl Bowes and Tameka Stringfield, fourteen great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, four nephews, six nieces, and a host of relatives and friends.
Mary White was an active member of Covenant Fellowship Church of Chesapeake under the leadership of Pastor Kevin R. White. She was a loving mother and was there to nurture all of her grandchildren. Mary White was a strong woman spiritual and physical. We have learned so much from her strength. It's so hard to say good- bye to such a special woman of God. One who would stand in the gap for her family and her church family. We will miss her but will always have her in our hearts. Heaven has just received another beautiful rose.
Funeral services will be held noon Monday a New Weeping Mary Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 – 5 pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. www.pretlowandsons.com .
