On March 6, 1932 the late Preston Sr. and Lillian Sanderson brought Matthew into the world. Matthew talked with God on July 28, 2017 getting permission to come and be with Him.

During his journey on earth he married the late Vandelia Hodnett Sanderson. They were blessed with seven children, Diane Person, Vandelia Powell (Percy), Laverne Smith (Larnell), Matthew Sanderson Jr., Michael Sanderson (Liza), Robin Freeman, and Marjorie Turner. God blessed him with fifteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren. Left also to remember his life is a brother, Alduster Sanderson (Ida), a very special brother-in-law, Alexander Hodnett, a special grandson he reared Herbert Sanderson, and a host of sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Matthew was employed with the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority as a Specialized Maintenance Mechanic (Boiler Maker) before retiring after 41 years. Daddy's fun-time job at Hurd's Seafood Restaurant at the oceanfront helped feed the family.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, where viewing will be held from 5-7pm Thursday at the funeral home.
