IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mckenya Jarnell
Freeman
July 10, 1985 – February 16, 2022
On the early morning of Wednesday, February 16, 2022, our love one received a call from our Lord saying that it was time for her to receive her wings. McKenya was born July 10, 1985 at Portsmouth General Hospital, in Portsmouth, VA. She was the daughter of Gwenetta Peck and McKinley Freeman. She spent her early years in Franklin, VA and later relocated and spent the remainder of her youth in the Campostella Section of Norfolk, South Norfolk, and Portsmouth Virginia. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Daisy M. Tate and paternal grandmother, Emma L. Staton.
McKenya attended Oscar Smith and Lake Taylor High Schools. She later obtained her GED from Kittrell Job Corps Center, in Kittrell NC. McKenya also earned a certification in Food Handling, Customer Service, and Management; where she thrived in these skillsets.
McKenya was a ray of sunshine that left an everlasting spark on everyone who knew her. Her free-spirited personality made her very popular and loved by many. "Kenya" was always the life of the party; entertaining family and friends with her dancing, singing, and witty personality. She had a radiant smile and a very goofy laugh that will be remembered by everyone she encountered.
McKenya had three beautiful daughters who she loved and cherished. She dedicated her life to motherhood and would do anything to please her girls. She worked effortlessly to provide anything and everything they needed. She showed her girls an abundance of love and instilled values in them that will always be remembered. She constantly reminded them to always stick together and to be kind, loving, and treat each other as one would want to be treated. She was an exceptional Mother!
McKenya leaves to cherish her precious memories, her daughters: Lamonie Silvers, Demetria Wattson, and Anaya Fuller; maternal grandfathers: Arthur L. Spires and William Mitchell; sisters: Coretta King (Jeremy), Shakita Dunn (Bradley), LaTanja Fields (Marion), Shalonda Williams, Ciera Smalley (Christian); brother: Nevlyn Williams; half-sisters: Latoya Slade, Chrissa Green (Eric), Donnika Edmonds, Ashley Edmonds; Godfather: Leroy Owens; special friends; Demetrius Wattson, Ashley Thompson, Tierr0 Wiggins; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives, and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at First Baptist Church Campostella, where viewing will be held from 5pm until 7pm Friday, Febraury 25, 2022. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake is in charge of arrangements.
