On December 15, 2025, at 12:09 pm, Melvin L. Bunnell, Sr., known as "Smoke" entered eternal rest surrounded by love and legacy. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Melvin lived a life marked by service, faith, and quiet strength.

He was a faithful member of Gabriel Chapel A.M.E Zion Church. Often the first to arrive and the last to leave. He faithfully wore many hats within the church and served with humility and dedication.

Melvin enjoyed fishing, watching his beloved Redskins football team, and relaxing with classic westerns. He especially cherished his Monday night dates with his wife, watching Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown together.

He will be deeply missed by all who loved him and by everyone who had the honor of calling him "Grandad," whether connected by blood or by heart. His legacy of love, service, and faith will live on in the lives he touched.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 11:00 am at New Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 1765 S Military Hwy, Chesapeake, VA 23320. Viewing will be Monday, December 22, 2025, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake Virginia, 23324.
