Monfort
June 18, 1959 – October 27, 2024
Michael Charles Monfort, son of the late William A (aka Sonny) and Edna Mae Monfort, was born June 18, 1959 at the Community Hospital in Glen Cove, New York. He departed this world on October 27, 2024 in Portsmouth, VA.
Michael grew up attending the Glen Cove City School District for elementary school. He played baseball as a kid. He was introduced to his beloved Mets remaining a faithful fan. Let's not forget about his J-E-T-S, Jets! Jets!! Jets!!! He finished his education at the Freeport School District serving as a band member of the Freeport High School marching band.
After graduating from high school, Michael joined the work force before making a decision to join the Air Force. Michael enlisted in the United States Air Force in October 1978 and served his country for over six years. During his time in the Air Force, he had a chance to travel internationally by being stationed in Madrid, Spain.
Michael made a decision to enlist again once his first tour was completed. It was during this time he crossed paths with Brendawho became his wife. They were married in March 1984 in Oklahoma where they lived until moving to Nevada. They shared eight wonderful years until her passing in 1992.
Michael reunited with his childhood sweetheart Carla Kennedy and relocated to Chesapeake, VA. While together Carla wanted to add a child into their lives to share their love. Earl Lee Kennedy came into their lives allowing Michael to share a father/son bond. He loved Earl and Cherelle until the end.
The skills Michael acquired while in the Air Force played a factor in him joining the City of Portsmouth Police Department as a Police Records Technician for 28 years before retiring. His retirement plan was moving back to Nevada. Sadly, his plan would not become a reality.
Michael is pre-deceased by his wife Brenda, his sister Melissaand niece Wahleeah. He is survived by his sisters Karen Butler and Johnnie Jones (Jack); his brothers, William (aka Marty) Monfort (Frances) and Paul Monfort (grandkids); Nieces LaShawn Coleman (Eric), Venisha Monfort: Nephews TyreeMonfort, Duane Monfort, Paul Monfort Jr, Mallah F Divine, and Sean Mashburn Jr. Great-nieces Erica Coleman, TaylorMonfort; Great-nephews Ralik Petty, Len Wilson, Mallah Divine Jr, Sean Coleman and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service will be held 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street, Chesapeake. Viewing will be held at 11:00 a.m. the day of the service. Burial will be 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Novemebr 12, 2024 at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
