Norfolk - Mildred Cason Garner of the 6800 block of Glenoak Drive went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 14, 2007. Born in Norfolk, she graduated from Booker T. Washington High and attended Norfolk State University and Old Dominion University. She retired as the Director of the Medical Record Department at Norfolk Community Hospital.
She was a longtime member of St. John's African Methodist Episcopal Church where she served as a ?Prayer Warrior?, a member of the Douglas Sturdivant Church School Class, Female Usher Board #2, Stewardess Board #2, and past president, treasurer, and secretary of various other organizations. Also, she was a member of Church Women United, where she received their highest honor, Valiant Lady.
She is predeceased by her husband, Wallace Garner, parents Willie Ann Pender and Amos Cason, and siblings, Tony, Fred and Hattie Cason. Her memory will be cherished by three sisters, Ruth C. Smith and Norma C. Hurdle of Norfolk, and Jean Mayes of Chesapeake; two stepchildren, Anthony Garner and Juanita Garner of Hampton; a sister-in-law, Ann Cason of Garner, N.C., grandchildren, eight nieces and nephews, numerous relatives and friends.
A home going celebration will be held noon Tuesday at St. John?s African Methodist Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Viewing will held 2pm - 7pm Monday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Memorial donations may be made to St. John's A.M.E. Church.
