Chesapeake – Mildred Ardean Holmes, 85, of the 500 Block of Marcus Street departed this life on June 14, 2010. Born in Chesapeake, she was a homemaker and a longtime member of First Baptist Church Crestwood. She served faithfully as a Deaconess, a member of the Senior Choir and the Gospel Choir. Also, she held membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, Maud Armstrong Chapter.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Holmes Sr., and her son, Willie D. Holmes. Survivors include, three daughters, Vivian Vaughan (Howard) of Chesapeake, Mildred L. Holmes of Maryland and Iwanda Neal (Raymond) of Chesapeake; nine sons, Clarence Holmes (Dorothy) of Norfolk, Theodore Holmes Jr. (Linda), Leroy Holmes (Laverne) all of Chesapeake, Andrew Holmes (Casey) of Hampton, Calvin Holmes (Sandra) of Newport News, Alvin Holmes (Lillian) , Howard Holmes (Stephanie), James Holmes , and Lorenzo Holmes all of Chesapeake; two brothers, Dennis Cuffee and Charles Cuffee both of Chesapeake, thirty six grandchildren, forty great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church Crestwood. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park.
