Milton Martin Powell was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 3, 2017. He was educated in Chesapeake Public Schools, and graduated from Oscar Smith High School in 1971. Milton joined the United States Navy in 1977, where he worked as a fire fighter. He was honorably discharged after serving a four year term. Milton Joined Chesapeake Christian Center in Chesapeake, Virginia in 1999. As an active member, he served as lead security, and remained a dedicated member until his illness. Milton worked at the Norfolk Naval Base as an Electrician, and retired from the government after 35 years.
Milton was predeceased by his mother Annie L. Powell, father Martin S. Powell, and two sisters Lillie Mae Powell, and Shirl Fortson. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of thirty three years, Audrey G. Powell, two sons Cleveland Banks, (Sheila), Milton "Tank" Powell, daughter Latoria Powell, and grandson Xzavion Powell all of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two brothers Walter "Ronnie" Powell (Yolanda), and Anthony Powell; three sisters Mary Riddick, Lavern Wilson (Timothy), and Dineen Rogers-Powell all of Chesapeake Virginia; one aunt Lola Turner of Chesapeake, Virginia, one uncle Ernest Boggs (Gladys) of Dumfries, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 12 noon Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Chesapeake Christian Center, 300 Liberty Street, Chesapeake. Viewing will be from 5pm until 7 pm Friday, September 8, 2017 at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
