Norfolk - Minnie B. Simpson Johnson, 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, February 17, 2011. She was born in the Berkley section of Norfolk, December 24, 1919 to the late Rev. James E. and Eva Simpson. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and later retired from Smith and Welton Department Store, where she was employed for more than 15 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church Berkley.
Predeceased by her four brothers, J. Andrew Simpson, William Simpson, Lorris Simpson and Robert Simpson, she leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Joseph A. Teshara, Sr. (Harriett) of Norfolk; three grandchildren, Joyce A. Teshara-Tartt (Kent) of San Diego, CA, Joseph A. Teshara, Jr. (Regina) of Newport News and Annie B. Teshara of Chesapeake; one great grandchild, Justin A. Teshara; two sisters- in- law, Carrie Simpson of Norfolk and Annie Simpson of College Park, MD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Her homegoing celebration will be held 12 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at First Baptist Church, Berkley, 706 E. Berkley Ave., Norfolk, officiated by Rev. William D. Tyree III. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
