Master Sergeant Nathaniel "Nat" London died Thursday, August 12, 2010 in Virginia Beach, VA after a long illness. He was born on January 31, 1938 in Ethel, AR to the late Mr. Steve London and the late Mrs. Myrtha Minor London. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Benton London of Chicago, IL in June 2002.
At an early age he joined and became an active member of the Allen Temple Baptist Church in Stuttgart, Arkansas.
He was educated in the Stuttgart Arkansas Public School system. He was a graduate of Holman High School Class of 1956. Upon graduation from high school, he attended Arkansas A.M. & N. College where he played football in addition to his studies, and later transferred to the Philander Smith College in Little Rock Arkansas, later completing a Bachelor of Science degree while serving in the Air Force.
In 1961, he joined the United States Air Force. There he served our country for over 27 years in various duty assignments and locations throughout the world; he was highly decorated veteran earning many medals and honors throughout his career. His last duty station was Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware in 1982.
Upon his military retirement, he moved to Anchorage Alaska where he was employed by the State of Alaska as a Codes Inspector for the city of Anchorage. He remained in Alaska until his second retirement. In 2002, he then moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he resided until his death.
Nat met and married Mrs. Dorothy McBride London and together they were the parents of five children.
He leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Terry R. London of Virginia Beach, VA, Anthony London (Priscilla) of Hebron, MD, Donte' R. London (Nicole) of Laurel, MD; three daughters: Doris J. Redus (Kenneth) of Little Rock, AR, Cynthia D. London of Colorado Springs, CO and Vernita Briggs of Milwaukee, WI; one brother, Samuel London (Mary) of Cold Springs, TX; three sisters, Leora Relerford of Stuttgart, AR, Ruth Callahan of Chicago, IL and Rose Owens of Casscoe, AR; five grandsons, Byron L. Scott, Jerome A. London, Shaunte' D. London (Danielle), Geoffrey D. London and Nicolas R. London; four granddaughters, Kenya M. Redus, Tammera J. London, Ariel A. London and Alexis N. London; two great-grandsons, Bryce Bolden-Scott and Juelz Johnson; two great-granddaughters; Bayleigh Scott and Aaliyah London.
Nat is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends. We loved you Nathaniel but God loved you best!
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010 in the chapel of Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Interment will follow at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Viewing will be held from 3 pm - 7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
