Obituary

Olga Elizabeth (Liz) Arnold Jones was the youngest of the seven children born to the late James and Sarah Virginia Jackson Arnold in Chesapeake, VA.  Never wanting anyone to refer to her as the "Baby", she brought much joy to our family as the girl with the golden voice. LIZ COULD SING! Even at the end of her time here on earth, she was still singing!  We think she knew the words and could sing every song ever written!

Liz attended George Washington Carver Elementary School and went on to graduate from Indian River High School. Her stellar career in government service spanned 25 years.  She became Supervisor of Truck Control at the Defense Logistics Distribution Agency and served in that  capacity for many years. Her work-ethic was exemplary - lauded and appreciated by all who came in contact with her.  The retirement letter she received from  Deputy Commander Budden in 2010 states: "We have appreciated the quality of your work as well as your loyalty and willingness to accept difficult assignments. May you retire knowing that you made a remarkable contribution and touched the lives of your colleagues and friends in immeasurable ways."

In addition to her musical prowess, Liz was also proficient in ASL (American Sign Language).  She was an avid reader,  loved TV Game shows and could beat everyone in Scrabble.   She never missed an episode of the People Puzzler!

A devoted wife and mother, she married Lynn Albert Jones in 1988 as they made their home here in Chesapeake, VA. They became faithful members of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church ( now The Mount Global Fellowship of Churches- Chesapeake) and have labored there for more than      20  years.

Liz was predeceased by both her parents and her sister Jeanette Calloway in 2010. She is survived by her husband Lynn Albert Jones of the home;  three children: Jason Smith, Robin Smith and Tarnell Rhodes; two grandchildren: Raquise Bellamy and Jaden Jordan; three sisters: Shirley W Cheeseman (Newport News, VA), Sarah A. Sparks (Middletown, DE) and Betty Taylor (Chesapeake, VA); two brothers: Quarlie Jackson (Geraldine) Jacksonville, FL and James Willie Arnold (Naomi) Hubert, NC; her Mother-in-law, Mrs. Lillie Mae Jones (Williamston, NC); four sisters-in-law: Carolyn Hunter (NC), Cynthia Williams (NC),  Matrissa Goupil (NC) and Mattie Jones (NC); two brothers-in-law : James Jones (Shirley)  and Gregory Jones (New York);   her doting Caretaker, Joyce Corprew; as well as countless nieces, nephews cousins and friends.

God in His infinite wisdom and abounding grace relieved her of all suffering and placed her in the Heavenly Choir with that beautiful angelic soprano voice. If you listen quietly right now, you will hear it!  The Lord is the only one who knows how much we miss her!  May God continue to bless us all as a Family - forever remembering our dearly beloved Liz.  "To God be All Glory for the things He has done!"
