Obituary

Oscar Gray Sr was born on December 13, 1953. He was born in Chesapeake, VA to the late William Herbert Gray and Florine Virginia Gray.

Oscar matriculated through Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, VA. He was employed with the City of Virginia Beach for 35 years with the Public Works Department. He met and married the love his life Judith Gray on June 14, 1986; together they raised 5 beautiful children. In his early childhood he was a member of Centerville AME church where he was a Sunday school teacher. He later joined New Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Oscar was a fan of America's Team, the Dallas Cowboys. Oscar was a lover of old school music to include artist such as Al Green, Otis Redding, Sam Cook, and Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. Oscar could often be found imparting his wisdom and knowledge to the younger generation. He ensured that all of his children had the necessary blueprints for life. Oscar never met a stranger, and he treated everyone that met like family. Oscar had a great sense of Humor and he affectionately assigned nicknames to his wife, children, and, grandchildren.

On Friday afternoon December 28, 2018, Oscar answered God's Call and peacefully transitioned from earth to glory. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents William and Florine Gray; sister Jeanette Sivels; two brothers William Gray and Jerry A. Gray.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 32 years Judith Gray; sons, Michael Blanchard Jr. of Los Angeles, California and Oscar Gray Jr. Of Chesapeake VA.; daughters Latasha Gibbs (Shawn) of Killeen, Texas, Michela Allen (Anthony) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Ebony Cuffee (Vernon) of Norfolk, VA.; grandchildren Michael Blanchard III, Teyanna Gibbs, Shawn Gibbs Jr., Anthony Allen Jr., and Mayah Allen; sister Bonnie King (Rodney) Chesapeake, VA.; brother William Kellam of Virginia Beach, VA; Mother and Father In-Love Edward and Angelina Cuffee; Sisters In-Love Lucinda Vaughan, Lisha Austin, Vickie Brown, Sandy Saunders (Troy), Marisha Cuffee all of Chesapeake, VA.; Brother-In-Love Edward Cuffee Jr (Deloris) of Virginia Beach, VA. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 1937 Land of Promise Road, Chesapeake. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held Friday, January 4, 2019 from 5pm until 7pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
