Chesapeake - Pastor Clara Jennings Isler Paxton, 80, of the 700 Block of Gainsborough Ct, was called home to be with the Lord April 24, 2007. Born in Princess Anne County, she was Pastor of Rose of Sharon Revival Center for over 40 years. She was founder of the Holy Hour Gospel Singers, and Gospel Promoter- Mistress of Ceremony.



She is survived by her son, Bishop Alfred A. Owens, Jr. (Susie) of Bowie, Maryland; two sisters, Zelpha Whidbee and Mary Green (Randolph) of Chesapeake; two stepbrothers, Albert and Columbus Dozier of Chesapeake; one stepsister, Ella Mae Simon of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, four great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Seven brothers preceded her in death.



A home going celebration will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, where viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Pastor Paxton will lie in state Sunday from 3pm - 7pm at Rose of Sharon Revival Center, 523 35th Street, Norfolk. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.
