Portsmouth – Rachel Daye McCleese, 86 of the 900 block of Hancock Avenue departed this life July 8, 2011. Born in Darlington, North Carolina, she was a member of Centennial Baptist Church where she was a Missionary.

She was predeceased by her husband, Luther McCleese. Survivors include a daughter, Fran Barner (H.L.) of Stafford, VA; a son, James Martin (Liz) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two sisters, Maxine Pierce of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Marie McNair of Dumfries, VA, fifteen grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held11:00 a.m. Saturday at Centennial Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held Friday from 3pm – 7pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake, where the family will receive friends from 6-7 pm.
