Obituary

Chesapeake – Raymond Vernell Smith Sr., "Rev", 59, of the 1700 block of Weaver Street departed this life July 7, 2011. Born in Chesapeake, he was employed as a diesel mechanic for 18 years. He was a member of Gabriel Chapel AME Zion Church.

He predeceased by his mother, Clementine Smith. Survivors include his wife Maggie J. Smith of Chesapeake; two sons, Raymond V. Smith, Jr. (Julia) of Chesapeake and Adrian L. Smith (ShaQuantia) of Tacoma, Washington; father, Raymond Smith of Chesapeake; two sisters, Robin Coleman (Carlos) of Alexandria, VA and Tina Smith of Newport News; one brother, Rev. J. Maverick Smith Sr. of Virginia Beach, five grandchildren, three nieces, one nephew and a host of relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Gabriel Chapel AME Zion Church. Interment will follow at Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Viewing will be held Monday from 3pm – 7pm Monday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. You may offer condolences to the family at www.pretlowandsons.com .
