IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rebecca Thomas
Clark
April 17, 1930 – March 13, 2019
Few people have been as blessed as we were to have enjoyed the life of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend as we did. Yes, we mourn in our hearts, but still rejoice in our spirits for those cherished memories we all share. We have nothing to regret because she lived a full and useful life with all of us. Death is only the beginning of a new and happy life with God. This is the type of life that one day we all hope to share.
Rebecca Thomas Clark was born on April 17, 1930, in the Berkley section of Norfolk, to the late Irma Riddick and James Thomas. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's Catholic High School. Shortly after graduating high school, Rebecca married the love of her life, Leonard L. Clark, in August of 1949. Rebecca and Leonard became the parents of 4 children, Leonard Jr., Gail, Alicia and Michelle. In 1953, the family moved to 848 Workwood Rd. in the Chesapeake Gardens neighborhood of Norfolk. This is where Rebecca became a member of the Civic League and earned the title of "Mayor of Workwood Rd." Loved and respected by everybody on the street, she was best friends to the mothers, second moms to their children, and daycare provider to generations of children. She was affectionately called Aunt Beck, Miss Rebekka and momma Beck by all the neighborhood.
Rebecca was predeceased by her parents, her Husband, Leonard L. Clark Sr., siblings Freddie Thomas, Eugene Riddick, Aris Haliday, Muriel Cowell and Constance Exum.
Left to cherish her memory, are her 4 children, Leonard L. Clark Jr and his wife Freida, Gail Clark, Alicia Clark, and Michelle Maull and her husband Willie. Her 7 grandchildren, Raynelle Brinkley, Leonard L. Clark III and his wife Joy, Lamont Clark, Ashley Clark, DeShawn Maull and his wife Latasha, Ryan Maull, and Christian Maull, her 7 great-grandchildren, Ayo Clark, Leonard L. Clark IV, Ashton Clark, Zari Niles, Janiya Maull, Jaylen Maull and Ashon Maull. 2 sisters, Melba Jackson and Shirley Poke. She also leaves to cherish their special relationship, the person who introduced her to her future husband because she was dating his twin, her best friend of 73 years, her confidante and her ride or die partner, sister- in- law Edna Clark. We all marvel at the millions of hours they spent on the phone during their nightly phone visits. In addition to her sister-in-law Edna, she leaves 3 other sisters-in-law who were also dear to her, Audrey James, Millicent Clark and Margaret Thomas and 2 brothers-in-law Reginald Clark and Ernest Jackson.
