Rebecca M. Harper, born October 11, 1927 passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late William Booker Smith and Ardell Gardner Smith. She was predeceased by her husband Johnnie Harper.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Shirley Cotten and her husband Wallace; her grandchildren, Shawn Cotten (Amy) and Shelley Cotten; five great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; her brothers, Allen Smith (Diane) and Melvin Smith (Betty); her sisters, Arthella Hill, Clara Smith, Ardell (Vanessa) Smith, Angelia Mays and Janet Smith; two aunts, one uncle, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Viewing will be Thursday from 3-7 p.m. at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty St, Chesapeake. A homegoing service will be held on Friday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, 6421 Providence Rd, Virginia Beach at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends in Queen City at the family home.
