Rebecca Lacewell Ricks was born on June 14, 1920 in East Arcadia, North Carolina to the late Dave and Frances Violee Lacewell. She departed this life on February 9, 2008 at her residence in Bronx, New York.
Rebecca accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Grahams Chapel AME Zion Church in the East Arcadia Community at an early age. Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Ricks; one child; a sister, Estelle Lacewell Fleming; and brothers, Almond Lacewell, James Lacewell, and Nathaniel Lacewell.
Rebecca was a loving, caring person. She had a great love for people. The center of her world was her family. Her service to the world was that of unselfish giving, love, food, shelter, clothing, and gifts of all kind. Some how, "Aunt Rebecca" always found a way to make others happy. She raised her brothers, Bernard and William as well as her nephew, Ernest Fleming, Jr.
Surviving to cherish her memory are two brothers, Bernard Lacewell, East Arcadia, NC and William Lacewell (Ola), Bronx, NY; a sister-in-law, Sarah Lacewell, Norfolk, VA; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; cousins; many other relatives; and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Chapel, 500 Liberty Street, Chesapeake, Virginia. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake.
