Chesapeake – Richard Cuthrell Wharton, Sr., 90, of the 200 block of Lincoln Road departed this life on October 19, 2013. Born in North Carolina, he was a brick mason for over 60 years. He was a longtime member of Dome of Canaan Baptist Church. Also, he was a member of the Rangers Hunt Club, and Masonic Lodge 66.
He is predeceased by his wife, Dorothy L. Wharton. Survivors include his daughter, Pamela Wharton Pridgen (Isaac) of North Carolina, and his son, Richard Wharton Jr. of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Michael Lee Thompson of Chesapeake, and Isaac Nehemiah Pridgen of North Carolina; a brother, William Wharton (Waltina) of North Carolina; special nieces, Thomasine Wharton, Victoria Glenn, Tamara Phillips and Frederika Williams; a special daughter, Jennifer Jones; a companion aide, Harmony Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at Dome of Canaan Baptist Church. Burial will be at Albert G. Horton, Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 12-5pm Sunday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 4-5pm. Condolences can be offered at www.pretlowandsons.com.
