Chesapeake - Robena Thaxton Winborne, 97, went to be with the Lord on January 31, 2014. She was born in Fayetteville, N.C. She graduated from high school at the age of 16 with honors. She enrolled at Hampton University, and after two years there, she taught school for a while in Alexandria, Virginia. Later, she worked as a dietician under the leadership of Mary Scott. She was a longtime member of St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church, were she was affiliated with various ministries.
Robena was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Virginia Freeman, her husbands, Benjamin Winborne and Alvis Thaxton. She is survived by a niece, cousins and friends.
A visitation will be held Tuesday from 1-5pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church.
