On Friday, July 13, 2018, Robert Lee Fletcher, was called home to be with his heavenly Father after a long and courageous fight. He was born in Durham, NC. He was a model citizen, and retired after 21 years of service with the United States Army, and during his tenure he was honored with the Purple Heart – a symbol of honor for sacrifice. He also retired after 27 years with the United States Postal Service. He was a faithful steward board member at St. Thomas AME Zion Church in Norfolk, Virginia for over 40 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Gaynell Fletcher; uncle, Webbie W. Fletcher; brother, Dr. William T. Fletcher; grandchildren Jovani Allen, Enoch Young, Dr. Twana Fletcher-Harrison, Robert Fletcher III, Michele Fletcher, Patricia Fletcher, and She' Fletcher; three daughters Takecha Jones, Kim Jones, Tanya Young and her husband Douglas Young. And he leaves behind a countless number of cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, July 21, 2018 at St. Thomas AME Zion Church, 1700 Melon Street, Norfolk. Viewing will be from 6-7pm Friday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Burial will be 11:00 am Monday, July 23, 2018 at Beechwood Cemetery, 3300 Fayetteville Road, Durham, North Carolina 27707.
