Ronald Edward Monk was born March 30, 1965, to the late Jesse L. Monk Sr. and Annie M. Monk and made his transition from labor to reward on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

Ronald was a faithful member of Grove Baptist Church, Portsmouth, Virginia.  He was educated in Portsmouth Public Schools and completed numerous apprenticeship trainings and certifications.  He attended Norfolk Skill Center, Newport News Shipyard and Tidewater Community College specializing in welding.  He was employed and retired with over 25 years of service at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard doing what he loved and that was being a welder.  He enjoyed being a welder and was great at his trade, so great that he was given the nickname "Monkster" and received many meritorious service awards.  He continued to work and travel as a welder to various Navy Shipyards around the world until his failing health.

Ronald leaves to cherish his memories his lovely wife of 33 years Betty Monk of Portsmouth, VA; his sons Ronald Lee, Dimitri G. Hill (Kimberly) and Terence Monk; his siblings: Imogene Celestine (Len-deceased), Evon Jones, Jesse L. Monk, Jr (Shirlyn Monk- both deceased), Luvonie Harrell (Floyd, Sr.), and Shirley McCullough (John-deceased). He also leaves behind nieces and nephews:  Lisa Celestine, LaDonna Coleman (Glen), Floyd Harrell, Jr. (Stacy), Justin Monk, Kaylin Celestine, and Faith Harrell. Ronald was blessed with ten grandchildren, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 14th, 2025, at 11:00am at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Viewing will be held Sunday, July 13th, 2025, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at the funeral home.
