Obituary

On the quiet day of the New Year at the hospital in Elizabeth City, N.C. our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and cousin, Rosie Virginia Johns Daughtry, was called by her heavenly Father from labor to rest.

She was born October 4, 1921 in Princess Anne County (now Virginia Beach) to John Thomas and Vessie Gatlin Johns.

She attended school in Princess Anne County, and at an early age she joined Union Baptist Church in Virginia Beach and was a life-long member.

On January 11, 1940, she married Timothy Daughtry and from that union seven sons were born, known by her as "My Boys".

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Annie Mae Byrd and Mary Sue Haynes, one brother, Wendell Gilbert Thomas, Sr., and one son, Ernest Roscoe Daughtry.

She leaves to cherish her fondest memories, six sons, Isiah (Josephine), Linwood (Evelyn), John (Ronda), Clifton, Shervett (Mary) and Charles (Karola); one step daughter, Louise Fuller (Edward); three adopted daughters, Carole Magwood, Ann Franklin and Alberta Wells; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Paris (Walter) four nieces, Phyllis Byrd, Tara Harris (Dale), Angela McPherson (Donald) and Cynthia Morring (Boris); two nephews, Wilford Byrd and Wendell Thomas, Jr. (Carolyn), 37 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren, 21 great-great grandchildren and many cousins and friends, one special cousin, Esther Mae Gray of Norfolk.

A celebration of life will be held 1pm Thursday at Union Baptist Church, 4608 South Blvd, Virginia Beach, with Dr. Thomasine Reid officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held Wednesday from 3-7 pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. You may offer condolences to the family at www.pretlowandsons.com.

The family will receive friends at the home of Rev. L.R. Daughtry, 3817 Windsor Woods Blvd, Virginia Beach.
