September 22, 1932 – January 2, 2009
Chesapeake – Roy Linwood Massey Sr., 76 of the 2700 block of Sawyer Mill Arch, departed this life on January 2, 2009 in his residence. A native of Norfolk, he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk and attended NC A& T in Greensboro , N C. He retired from the City of Chesapeake Sheriff's Office and the City of Norfolk. Roy was a member of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Chesapeake.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sylvia Antoinette Massey of Chesapeake; five daughters, Rhonda Dozier (Christopher), Phyllis Williams (Ovid, Sr.), Karen John (Dominic, Sr.), Sherri McCoy (Donald), and Adrienne Thompson (Antonio) ;four sons, Kirk Lewis (Angela), Roy Massey, Jr. (Madre), Deacon Rodney Massey, Sr., (Delphina), and Harold Massey; 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; a special sister-in-law, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Homegoing services will be at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Chesapeake on January 7, 2009 at 12 p.m., which will be officiated by Pastor-elect, Rev. Gregory David. The body will be placed in church at 11 a.m. the day of the service for viewing. Burial will be at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing will be held Tuesday, from 2pm – 7pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
