Obituary

Ruth Hazel Johnson , 101, was called home to God on Jan 15, 2022.  Ruth was born November 7, 1920, in Buell, Virginia now known as Money Point Chesapeake VA.  This great woman of God was the daughter of the late Joe Bell Jr (1885 -1970) and Fannie Watson Bell (1900-1964).  At the tender age 11 years of age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She became a member of First Baptist church Money Point Chesapeake VA. This Great Woman of God dedicated her life to the Lord through Service.  Ruth was a member of the choir and had a beautiful voice. Ruth loved the Hymns of the Church.  Ruth served as a Pastor's Aid, Member of the Hospitality Club, and an Avid Giver.  Ruth was known for her beautiful hats and gloves.  Ruth loved people and children. Ruth was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Money Point. Ruth was the Eldest Member of the Church and Known as the Mother of the Church.   Ruth's favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me" and her favorite saying was "Lord take care of me each and every day!"
Ruth worked as a housekeeper for a prominent Judge in VA Beach who loved Ruth and she loved the family.   Ruth worked as a caregiver for family and friends as well.   Ruth was an early riser catching the bus to destinations for the day. Ruth was so loved in the community that on many occasions instead of catching the bus, family or friends would see her at a bus stop, pull over and drive her to her destination.
Ruth is the fourth of 13 children of Fannie Watson Bell (1900-1964) and John Bell Jr. (1885-1970).  Ruth (A Great Woman of God) is predeceased by her siblings Vivian Beatrice Bell Alexander, John "Jack" Bell III, Minnie Bell, Constance Bell, Berlin Bell, Catherine Coleridge Bell Smith, James Herbert Bell, Joe Linwood Bell, Clarice Bell, George Bell Shirley Temple Bell, and Oscar "Peter" Bell.  Ruth is also predeceased by her Husband Clyde Johnson and her son Clyde Johnson Jr.  Survived by the Watsons, Bells, Hayslett and Johnson families and friends whom Ruth helped nurture in her life.
A viewing will be held at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday, January 18 , 2022, from 4 pm to 6 pm.  The address is 500 Liberty St, Chesapeake, VA 23324 . A graveside service is was Wednesday January 19, 2022, at 10 am.  A Memorial Service is will be held 1:00 pm, Saturady, June 4, 2022 at First Baptist Church Money Point, 439 Freeman Avenue, Chesapeake, VA, 23324 with Pastor Bynum officiating.
