Virginia Beach- Mrs. Ruth Helon Anderson Scott, 86, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends on Tuesday, November 30, 2010. She was the wife of the late Rev. Dr. General L. Scott, Sr., former pastor of St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church in Norfolk, where she was a devoted first lady for over 40 years.
Mrs. Scott dedicated much of her adult life to early childhood education. She was the founder and director of the St. Thomas Childcare Center which heavily supported the Norfolk Community.
Throughout her life, she supported and volunteered with many organizations. She was a member of the Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society, life member of the Life Members Council, Deaconess, served as a delegate to many General Conferences at the A.M.E. Zion conferences, and Financial Secretary for the Norfolk District, to name a few.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving son General L. Scott, Jr. (Toni), four beloved grandchildren, Tonette Scott-Eaves (Franklin), Leteria M. Scott, Generaldo L. Scott, and Datrell L. Scott; two brothers, June Anderson and Milford Anderson (Thelma); and a host of family and loving friends.
The funeral will held on Monday, December 6, at 11a.m. at St. Thomas A.M.E Zion Church, 1700 Melon Street, Norfolk, with Rev. Dr. Joseph Lamb, Sr., officiating. Entombment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing will be on Sunday, December 5, 2010 from 12 – 5 p.m. at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street, Chesapeake.
