Remembering the life and legacy of a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, grandmother and friend.

Ruth Cason Smith was born July 18, 1925 to Amos and Willie Ann Cason in Norfolk, Virginia. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. As a faithful and devoted lifelong member of Saint John's AME Church, she served on the Female Usher Board #3. She also was a member of the Chesapeake Fellow Group, AME Soup Kitchen, the Lay Organization and the Missionary Society.

Ruth was married to the late Wille E. Smith ( Ret Army) and together they raised four children. She is preceded in death by her sons, Larry Cason, Rodney Smith, and Kenneth Smith; brother Fred W. Cason; sisters Mildred Garner and Jean Mayes. She leaves behind to cherish her special memories, her son Michael W. Smith, sister Norma Hurdle, grandchildren Veronica Owens, Monica Moore and Sheila Hinnant, six great grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.

Due to the snow, the funeral service has been cancelled for Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 11:00 am, and is rescheduled for 12 noon on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Viewing was held from 5-7pm Friday, January, 21, 2022 at the funeral home.
