Obituary
Norfolk- Sherin Shearin Ph.D,67, passed suddenly and unexpectedly Saturday, November 23, 2013. She was born in the Huntersville section of Norfolk, VA to the late Samuel and Charlotte Avery.
Sherin graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and received her bachelors degree from Norfolk State University. She went on to earn a masters degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and returned to Norfolk State to become one of the first women earning a PhD in social work. She retired from the Norfolk Public School System in July 2011, after more than 30 years of service.
She is survived by her daughter, Angela Michele Shearin, and son, Dr. Anthony Michael Shearin, a sister, Charlotte Avery Johnson (Willie), two nephews, one niece, and a host of dear relatives and friends.
The Shearin Family will receive friends and relatives Friday, December 6, 2013 at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty St., Chesapeake, VA from 3-7 pm. The home going celebration will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Pretlow & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
