Chesapeake - Shirley Ann Perkins of the 2700 block of Sunrise Avenue transitioned into eternal life on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at Sentara Nursing Center in Hampton, Virginia. She was born February 6, 1938 in Norfolk, Virginia to John and Cora Fields.
Our beloved mother received her formal education from Norfolk Public Schools. She provided 36 years of faithful service to Sentara Leigh Hospital with several years as a supervisor in Environmental Services.
Mother loved her family. She was devoted to her husband of 39 years, the late Harold L. Perkins, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Cora Fields; grandmother, Mary E. Watford; grandfather, Arthur Watford and maternal first cousin, Delores McIver Wyatt.
Those left to be encouraged by her legacy of love include two loving daughters, Patricia Ann Perkins of Chesapeake and Beverly Perkins Williams (Rev. Michael) of Hampton; one dutiful son, Audwin Arthur Perkins (Lavanda) of Hampton; seven grandchildren, Mia Nicole Perkins of Norfolk, Kimara and Audrey Perkins both of Hampton, Andre Michael Williams of Atlanta, Georgia; Julie Perkins of Virginia Beach and Bruce and Bryan Perkins both of Charlotte, North Carolina; three great grandsons, Jalen, Xavier and Koby; two stepchildren, Bruce Perkins (Wanda) of Charlotte, North Carolinas and I. Bertoma DeLoatch of Norfolk; one sister, Barbara Jean Fields of Norfolk, one maternal aunt, Dorothy Watford McIver of Sierra Vista, Arizona; five sisters-in-law, Ruby Perkins Godfrey and Juanita Perkins both of Norfolk, Linda Perkins and Alberta Perkins both of Chesapeake, and Helen Perkins of Norfolk; three brothers-in-law, Rudolph Perkins of Norfolk, Elmo Perkins and Reuben Ralph Perkins both of Chesapeake; two "sister-friends", Bernice Billups of Chesapeake and Delores Cooper of Norfolk, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held noon Saturday at First Baptist Church, Berkley. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held Friday 2pm - 7pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
