Chesapeake - Simon Basnight, 93, of the 1600 block of Lansworth Street departed this life June 24, 2007. Born in North Carolina, he was owner and operator of Basnight Painting Co., and he worked in his profession for over 50 years until his retirement. He was a long time and faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church, and a member of the Windsor Hunting Club.



He is predeceased by his wife, Mary L. Basnight. Survivors include four sons, James C. Young (Pamela A.) of Chesapeake, Robert L. Young (Cecile) of St. Louis, Missouri, William H. Jones and Melvin C. Basnight of Norfolk, four grandchildren, a host of relatives and friends.



A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Shiloh Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held Thursday from 2pm - 7pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
