Obituary

Newport News- On Thursday, April 12, 2007, Staff Sgt. Delray Wallace was called to his eternal rest. He was born on October 30, 1968 in Portsmouth, Virginia to Ollie Lee Wallace and the late Mattie Louise Wallace.



Delray attended Bayside High School where he graduated in 1987. He worked for the Xerox Company from 1989-1999 in the electronic field. He joined the military in 1988 at the age 19 where he served 16 years in the United States Army Reserve. While serving in the U.S. Army Reserve he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. In January of 2005, SSG Wallace went active duty to serve in the war. He was reassigned to the 97th Transportation Company and took the Junior Marine Engineer position. SSG Wallace most recent assignment was aboard LCU-2017 as the Assistant Chief Engineer.



Prior to his death, he received several awards in the U.S. Army, such as the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Global War on Terrorism Service Ribbon.



During his years of service, he was also an active member of several schools where he achieved degrees in electronics and engineering. His military education included the Psychological Operations Officer?s Course, Warrior Leader Course, Basic NCO Course, 88L40 Course, ULLS-G Operator Course and Combative Level 1 Course.



He leaves to cherish, his wife and soul mate Michaelle, his father Ollie Lee, his children Latia, Quentin and Deja, two brothers Michael and Ronald Harvey and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.



A funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Base Chapel, 1160 D Street, Norfolk, where viewing will be held from 12 - 2 pm prior to the service. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake is in charge of arrangements.
