Sylvester "Baby Face" Garfield Artis, Sr. was called home to be with the Lord on August 21, 2021. Born on October 1, 1922, in Newsoms, Virginia, he was the fourth son of the late Garfield Artis, and Annie Bynum Artis.

He was predeceased by his wife Francis Artis, son, William Alexander Artis, brothers, Hurley Artis, Lorenza Artis, Leander Artis, Booker T. Artis, Randolph Artis and Raymond Artis, sisters, Fannie Artis Brown and Margaret Harris, and grandson Troy Artis.

He is survived by his son Sylvester G. Artis, Jr., nephew Garfield Artis (Holly), nieces, Dorinda Lamb (Patrick) and Deborah Harris, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great nephews, great nieces, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service wll be held 12:00 pm Monday, Aughust 30, 2021 at First Baptist Church Money Point, 439 Freeman Avenue, Chesapeake. Interment will folllow at Albert G. Hoton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Viewing will be held from 3pm until 5pm Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Pretlow and Son Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
