After an extended illness, Sylvia Jean Person was called home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2014, at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. Sylvia Person was born October 11, 1948 in Norfolk, Virginia. She was raised by the late Jeffery and Doris Portlock and the biological daughter of the late Lola G. Gardner.

Sylvia was an employee with Chesapeake Public School System for over 20 years.

She will be missed by her five children, Yvonne Person, Leon Person, Eric Person (Tracy), Cynthia McCoy and Shannon Bonds; eight grandchildren, six great grandkids, seven sisters and a host of nieces and nephews.

A home going celebration will be held noon Monday at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 1 to 5pm Sunday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Condolences can be offered to the family at www.pretlowandsons.com.
