CHESAPEAKE – Reverend Timothy Williams Sr., 85 was summoned by the Lord on Friday, March 4, 2011 at his residence while surrounded by his family. He touched many lives during his journey through life and will be dearly missed. He was the son of the late Bishop Thomas and Mrs. Misha Williams and was raised in Alton, IL. He became a champion for the Lord at a very young age beginning his training and study of the bible at the age of 14. Timothy graduated from Alton Senior High School in Alton, IL, and attended Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Missouri until being drafted into the United States Army in 1946. After leaving military service, he continued to pursue his degree and attended evening classes at Norfolk State College and Old Dominion University studying Accounting. Timothy received a Bachelors of Arts degree in Christian Education from The Norfolk Seminary and College in May 2000 at the age of 74. He then taught college degree courses at Tabernacle Bible College until September 2005 when his health prevented him from formal teaching. He was ordained as a minister of the Gospel on May 22, 2004. He was a member of First Baptist Crestwood for many years before moving his membership to First Baptist Church South Hill in 2010. Timothy was initiated into Eastern Light Lodge #4 on May 5, 1951 and over the years served in several places and stations in the lodge which included District Deputy Grand Master and member and chairman of the Internal Audit Committee of the MWPHGL of Virginia. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 35 years of service. While living in the Crestwood area of Chesapeake he was very active in the community. He was Scoutmaster of Troop 129, member and vice president of Crestwood Civic League, a charter member and former financial secretary Chesapeake Men for Progress and a member of the Chesapeake Forward Civic Group.
He was predeceased by his first wife the late Ethel L. Williams, by his second wife, the late Melvine L. Williams and step-children, Edward, Gretchen and Cedric and his sister Daisy Holoman. He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Timothy Jr.(Desiree), Howard (Wanda), one step-son Tracy, two daughters, Anita Golden (Raymond) and Patricia Shorter, six grandsons, Timothy III(Dollie), Daryl, Alan, Stephen, Alexander and John, eight great grandchildren, six nieces, four nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A homegoing service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, at First Baptist Church South Hill, with the Rev Michael R. Toliver officiating. Interment will be at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held Friday from 3 – 7 pm at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake, where the family will receive friends from 6-7pm.
