Obituary





Chesapeake - Tony Jay Watson of the 100 block of Lincoln Road departed this life November 2, 2006 in a local hospital.



Born in Norfolk County now Chesapeake, he was the son of the late Doris and Melvin Watson, Sr. He joined First Baptist Crestwood at an early age, and was always willing to serve in the Crestwood community whenever he could. "Tony J" as he was affectionately called, was a gentle giant.



Tony graduated from Indian River High School and attended Norfolk State University, where he played football until he became injured. He worked at Norship-Co for many years, and later the city of Norfolk until his health failed.



He is survived by two children, a devoted son, Alex Dickerson of Virginia Beach; a loving daughter, Deshauna Gay of Norfolk; two sisters, Renee Walker of Chesapeake and Sherri Harris (Chief Stephen Harris) of Florida; one brother, Melvin Watson Jr. (Sabrina) of Chesapeake; two aunts, Dr. Shirley Winstead (Atty. James Winstead) of Chesapeake and Delores Smith (Howard) of Maryland; one niece, Mya Watson of Chesapeake; three nephews, George Walker III, and Miles Watson of Chesapeake, and Stephan Harris II of Florida; a great aunt, Mrs. Fannie Stewart of New York; great uncle, Mr. Walter Jarvis of Chesapeake; and a host of cousins and friends.



A funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Crestwood. Dr. Anthony B. Rodgers, pastor will officiate. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m. at Pretlow and Sons Funeral home, Chesapeake.
