Obituary

Tresa Simmons Macklin, born October 21, 1930, departed this earthly life to enter into eternal rest on Wednesday evening,
January 31, 2018. She was the third of three children born to Joseph and Claristine Simmons of the Berkley section of Norfolk, VA.  Her loving husband, Clifford Hayes Macklin, Sr., her parents, her siblings, Joseph F. Simmons, Jr. and Claristine "Baby Dot" Simmons, and her favorite nephew James Scarver all preceded her in death.

Tresa attended the public schools in Norfolk, VA.  She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in the spring of 1948.  The next two years she studied elementary education at the Norfolk Division of Virginia State College.  The following two years she spent studying at Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA, concluding requirements for a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education.

Upon graduation, she returned to Norfolk and was hired to teach in the public schools of the city.  During that time she did graduate studies in elementary education at Rutgers University, Virginia State University and University of Virginia.  After 38 years she retired in the spring of 1993.

In 1952 Tresa married her high school sweetheart Clifford H. Macklin, Sr.  To this union two sons were born.  For 25 years this happy family enjoyed working, playing and learning together until death claimed the life of Cliff.  Time healed their wounds and life gradually resumed.

Tresa was an active member in her community.  She was a member of the Crest Harbour Civic League, Chums, volunteered her services in the schools, and held offices in the Chesapeake Woman's Club.

Tresa joined New Central Baptist Church at an early age.  She volunteered her services in many capacities.  She was an officer in the Payne/Lamb Alter-guild, chairperson of the church Anniversary Committee and chairperson of Women's Day programs for several years.  She remained an active member until her health declined and she could no longer attend.

Tresa leaves to cherish her precious memories two sons Clifford H. Macklin, Jr., (Kim) of Chesapeake, Virginia and Bryan S. Macklin, Sr., (Regina) of Suffolk, Virginia;  three grandsons, Clifford C. Macklin, Sr., (Tiosha), Julius B. Macklin, and Bryan S. Macklin, Jr., of Chesapeake, Virginia; one granddaughter Jennifer L. Macklin of Waldorf, Maryland; two great-grandchildren, Lyla M. Macklin and Clifford C. Macklin, Jr., of Chesapeake, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Sylvester C. Macklin (Beulah) of Portsmouth, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Eloise Stanford of Columbus, Ohio; six nephews, Harvey Haskins (Nola) of Hampton, Virginia, Michael Haskins (Feleica) and Kenneth Haskins (Joy) of Chesapeake, Virginia, Tracy Haskins (Tracie) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Thomas B.
