On October 15, 2025, God laid one of his angles, Valarie Hillman Herron to eternal rest. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend.

Valarie was the daughter of the late Dave Hillman and Ida V. Cade. She is preceded in death by her daughter Tyia Hillman, brother, Robin Hillman and sisters Carla Yarborough and Lynnette Hall.

Valarie graduated from Norview High School and attended Norfolk State University. She worked for the Norfolk Community Service Board as an IT Tech for over 30 years until her retirement. She joined New Hope at an early age under Rev. Upton and Rev. James Anderson and later became a member of God's House Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Johnnie Herron and Eric Herron of Portsmouth, Virginia; one granddaughter Erica Herron; two brothers, Zachary Hillman (Belinda) of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Dana Hillman (Lynette) of Norfolk, Virginia; four sisters, Shirlene Smith, Tonia "Tiny" Hillman both of Norfolk, Virginia, Rhonda "Diane" Horton (Jeffery) of Northern Virginia, and Shelia Manderville of Portsmouth, Virginia; a God daughter, Felita Steverson, a special cousin, Debra Wellons and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime friends.

There will be a funeral service held at 1:00 pm on Friday October 24, 2025, at New Hope Church, 145 E Liberty St, Norfolk, Virginia. Viewing will be from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street, Chesapeake.
