Vandalet S. Mercer, a loving daughter, mother, sister, auntie and friend entered into eternal rest on December 15, 2015 while living in the city of Portsmouth, Virginia. A native of Chesapeake, she was predeceased by her great grandparents, Eula and John Cuffee, and grandfather, Roosevelt Alexander. Vandalet was born on June 5, 1988 in Chesapeake, Virginia to Laverne Alexander Sivels and Terry Sivels. Vandalet graduated from Hickory High School in 2006 with an aspiration to work in law enforcement.
Vandalet was a humble, good-hearted friendly person who got along with people and enjoyed life. She loved to laugh, joke and spend time with family and friends.
Left to cherish beautiful memories of Vandalet is her husband, Shawn Mercer of Moyock, North Carolina; her daughter, Kiasia Mercer; mother Laverne Alexander Sivels, and father Terry Sivels; two brothers, Cordaro Alexander and Terry Sivels, Jr.; grandmother, Caroline Alexander and adorable nieces and nephews, along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends both near and far. Also, she leaves to cherish her memories, a special uncle, Larry Sivels, special aunts Naomi Jordan, and Rose Butts "Peaches".
A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 11am at New Mount Olive Baptist Church; 662 Fernwood Farms Rd, Chesapeake. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday at Pretlow Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street in Chesapeake.
