Virginia Beach
– Vattelle Dwitt Beckett, Jr., 74, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2009, in Sentara Leigh Hospital. Born in Norfolk, he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and attended Norfolk State.
He was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church, Norfolk and retired from the American Tobacco Company and the Virginia Beach Public Schools.
Mr. Beckett was predeceased by his parents. Vattelle, Sr. and Virginia Beckett; daughter, Patricia Beckett, and brother, Eugene Beckett. He is survived by his wife, Jean Beckett; one sister, Evelyn Branch of Norfolk; one brother, Melvin Bekett (Pat) of Chesapeake and a host of family and friend
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty Street, Chesapeake. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at New Calvary Baptist Church, 800 E. Virginia Beach Blvd by Rev. William Collins. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park.
