Chesapeake, Virginia- Vernell Clemons Sr., 72, was called home to God January 14, 2014. He was born in Norfolk County, son of the Late Louis and Dorlester Lamb Clemons. He worked as an International Longshoreman "ILA" local 1248 for almost thirty years as a driver. Vernell was a member of St. Luke AME Church than later became a member of the New Galilee Missionary Baptist Church was he sung in the male choir until God took him home.
Vernell is survived by his wife, of 48 years, Mary Ella Brooks Clemons; sons, Vernell Clemons Jr. of Virginia Beach,VA, Lorenzo Brooks Clemons of Virginia Beach, VA, Ernest James Clemons of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Jerrod Clemons of Suffolk, VA , Javon Clemons of Virginia Beach,VA and three great grandchildren. Seven Brothers; Reginald Clemons of Maryland; Bryon Clemons of Chesapeake; Berlin Clemons of Norfolk; Elvis Clemons of Norfolk; Kenny Clemons of Alabama Donnie Clemons of Chesapeake; one sister Peggy Jones of Chesapeake and host of uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewing will be held at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home Friday, January 17 at 3pm until 7pm; 500 Liberty St, Chesapeake, VA 23324. Vernell's Home going services will take place 1 pm Saturday at New Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Anderson Foreman officiating. Burial will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park.
