Chesapeake - The Rev. Vernon D. Wilson, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and pastor, slipped away into eternity Tuesday, January 3, 2007 at Chesapeake General Hospital. He was 56 years old. Vernon was the beloved son of the late Mary F. Blount and Vernon Wilson. He was a dedicated and devoted member of the Holy Light Church of Deliverance until entering the pastorate.
Vernon received his public school education in Chesapeake Public Schools, and his Associate Degree in Biblical Studies from the School of Ministry in Norfolk, VA. Colonial Chevrolet never had a more hardworking, faithful, and outstanding employee as Vernon. He was committed to excellent service as a top salesman for twenty years. Vernon received awards too numerous to count, and was recognized as a number one salesman in the Colonial Chevrolet Community.
Vernon was licensed to preach the gospel in October 1997 and was ordained in 2001. In September 2001, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Vernon founded Living God Ministries, which today is known as the Church of the Living God. Vernon was more than a just a Pastor, he was a peoples Pastor. Vernon had a true heart for young married couples and above all, the children and youth of the Church of the Living God had his heart, and he had theirs. With God on his side, Vernon touched the lives of many people and made the difference in their lives.
Vernon leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Jacqueline Eason Wilson; his daughter, Tracy Wilson of Chesapeake; his son, Vernon D. Wilson, Jr. of Chesapeake; one sister, Celia Brooks of Chesapeake; four grandchildren that he dearly loved, Delano, Tevon, "Miss Wilson" (Winter), and Asant'e; a very special nephew whom he cared for and loved, Willie Wilson, one aunt, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at noon at the Holy Light Church of Deliverance by Bishop Samuel L. Carrruth, Pastor, founder and overseer. Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home are in charge of arrangement. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to The Church of the Living God. The family will receive friends at 1228 Saul Drive, Chesapeake, 23324.
