Veronica Butts, 55, of the 800 block of Weiss Lane was called home to be with the Lord on August 24, 2016. She was a native of Norfolk and a graduate of Lake Taylor High School Class of 79. She was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army and was trained as a Surgical Technologist. Upon her honorable discharge, she continued in that field. She was employed at Chesapeake General Hospital as a Surgical Technologist until her illness.
She was predeceased by her sister, Lynn Marie Butts, father, Linwood Butts, Sr., and brothers, Linwood Butts, Jr. , and Kenneth Brown. Survivors include her loving and devoted mother, Marie Butts; one brother, Everett Walker; three sisters, Tracy Marie Butts, Felicia Olds (Kevin) and Madeline Kiah; eight nephews, three nieces, ten great nephews and four great nephews, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas AME Zion Church, 1700 Melon Street, Norfolk, with Dr. Joseph Lamb, presiding. Interment and military honors will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held from 2pm -5 pm Sunday at Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake.
